All Frolic-ed Out

I went to Frolic. I bought yarn. Now I will take a nap.

Photo's of purchases tomorrow? I think it's supposed to be sunny, so I'll wait for that.

Oh feck. My bed is entirely covered in crap from having moved all my things home. Maybe I'll just watch Lord of the Rings.

Rays of sunshine in my yarn

On Tuesday I took my bike out for the first ride of the year. It needs a tune up since it spent the winter locked (and stuck, the lock was jammed until recently) to the side of the house. I love riding my bike around the city, it's really the fastest way to get around. I handed out a few resumes, and then headed out for some real fun.

My first stop was Lettuce Knit, where I picked up a few goodies. Not to mention the highlight of seeing the cat completely asleep in a basket of yarn. The picture is sideways, but you get the idea. Speaking of, does anyone know how to rotate pictures in Blogger? My goal at Lettuce Knit was to pick up some fun summer sock yarn. All the stuff I have now is boring, greys and black and such. I picked up my first ever Koigu, which I think will become Roza's from this issue of Interweave. You can also see in the background that I got a copy of the winter issue of Interweave. Everyone kept laughing because the cover says "Warm up for Winter", and we were having one of the nicest weekends so far. I am very excited to knit with this. I would have cast on, but I moved half of my things home on Monday, which included most of my knitting things. I didn't think to grab the magazine before I returned to res.
Second up was a skein of Jitterbug in allzarine. I was going to start knitting these up, but a few stitches in I realized that they will need a larger gauge than my 2.5mm's, so they will have to wait as well. I'm still not sure what exactly I will do with them, maybe some modified Jaywalkers?
In the meantime I cast on a pair of boring grey socks, that have alread been frogged once. I knit half of the foot in a toe up during my exchange meeting today, but I didn't like it at all. It's too bad that the yarn matched the meeting and the weather today, boring and grey.

Movie Meme

I found this on yarnknita's blog, and thought it was interesting, so I filled it out. I kept looking up to my shelf to see what movies I own, but they are all packed in a box. Instead I was staring at a box of pancake mix.

Anyway, enjoy this little meme, and feel free to steal it if you like.

1. Name a movie you have seen more than 10 times. Grind. It's a horrible movie, but I love it so. There was a period in grade 11 that I watched it every weekend. My brother and I saw it in theatres, and I bought it the week it came out on DVD.

2. Name a movie you’ve seen multiple times in the theater. All three Lord of the Rings and Superman.

3. Name an actor who would make you more inclined to see a movie. Colin Firth, and Judy Dench.

4. Name an actor who would make you less likely to see a movie. Kiera Knightly. She annoys me to no end.

5. Name a movie you can and do quote from. Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version). Invader Zim, but that's a tv show.

6. Name a movie musical in which you know all of the lyrics to all of the songs. Grease.

7. Name a movie you have been known to sing along with. Just about everything.

8. Name a movie you would recommend everyone see. Pan's Labyrinth.

9. Name a movie you own. Virgin Suicides.

10. Name an actor who launched his/her entertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops. Mark Whalberg, aka Marky Mark.

11. Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in? No, but I really really want to! Maybe I can convince The Boy to take me on a date ....

12. Ever made out in a movie? Not in theatres....

13. Name a movie you keep meaning to see but you just haven’t gotten around to yet. There are honestly so many of these, the list goes on. Leon: The Professional is one though.

14. Ever walked out of a movie? No

15. Name a movie that made you cry in the theater. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. I saw it the day before my prom, with my three best friends, and we had spent the entirety of highschool discussing that book, it was epic.

16. Popcorn? Not unless someone else buys it.

17. How often do you go to the movies (as opposed to renting them or watching them at home)? Once a month or less.

18. What’s the last movie you saw in the theater? Starter for Ten. Or was it 300? I can't remember which was last!

19. What’s your favorite/preferred genre of movie? Fantasy, regular comedy (instead of slapstick), drama.... really anything but gore.

20. What’s the first movie you remember seeing in the theater? The Little Princess. And I remember being terrified.

21. What movie do you wish you had never seen? Rush Hour 2. That was two hours and 10 dollars I will never get back.

22. What is the weirdest movie you enjoyed? Hackers, because it's awesome.

23. What is the scariest movie you’ve seen? House on Haunted Hill, except that I was so terrified I ran out before the opening credits had time to finish. I actually sat through The Shinning, and that was pretty scary too.

24. What is the funniest movie you’ve seen? Do I really have to name one?

Oh Sunny Day!

This morning was spent with cuddles and naps, some in bed, and some outside in the glorious weather that we are having right now. I got in a few rounds on my Thermal sleeve, only a few inches left. It looks really tiny in this picture, but I keep it all folded up inside so that it doesn't dangle around and annoy me. Plus it fits in my bag a little more efficiently too. The only (small) downside to being outside is that there isn't much in the way of shade since none of the trees have leaves yet. But if you look closely, you can see that they are trying thier best to get them out.

This is time of year is the saddest part of living in res. My computer is in front of the window, which looks out over the quad. All yesterday and today there has been a steady stream of people carrying boxes and suitcases out of the building, packing up their cars and moving home. Luckily none of my friends have left yet, but Andrea will be leaving tomorrow, then Sam, Renee and Mary on Wednesday. I'm here until the bitter end, as I am working on the 29th and 30th, so I can't leave until May 1. However, that isn't stopping me from moving out, I sent three boxes home with my mom on Wednesday, and will have four ready for her on Monday. It makes me so sad! I'll miss my concrete cube.

I want my brain back...

Despite the spectacular weather, all I want to do is crawl into bed and go to sleep. I feel like I've been run over by a truck. A truck full of allergies. Bah! This is the first time this has happened, normally I'm not affected by the weather like this. I have serious sympathy for all the people who get this every year, because it seriously sucks. Runny nose, head of cottonballs, and sneezes that come fast and furious.

On a better note, I've only got one more exam left to write, and then I'm completely scot free for the summer! And I have Silversun Pickups tickets! Muahahahahahahaha!

Cheesecake and tea.

Two exams down, one more today and two more in a week and I'm done! As a reward for being half way, I made myself this treat. Cheesecake for breakfast is the bestest ever.

The china is an adorable set I got at Value Village a few weeks ago. The pattern is Crazy Daisy or Spring Blossoms by Corelle. I got six cups and saucers for 8 dollars. I will now be on the look out for any dishes with this pattern, maybe I can get a set one day!

Nose to the Grind

or really to the text book. I have one exam tonight, and two tomorrow. That leaves me off the hook for a week, then I have two more. Bah! I must return to studying.

This is a Peaceful Protest

One of the classes I'm taking, Creative and Critical Fictions, deals with the issues of war, and books as an art medium. For our final project, we had to create a book around a war that was currently being fought. I chose the conflict in Lebanon that has been extended from over the summer. I made a bag, (a book bag, get it?!) that holds all the things I would find useful in a sit-in protest.

The first pocket is the flag of Lebanon, with the word Independence.

Olive branches and Freedom. I think that I will make a bag of this image, maybe to sell. What do you think?

Map of Lebanon and National Unity and Soveriegnty.

Rafik Hariri was assassinated on Valentine's Day in 2005. Much of the protests are a call for authorities to find out who killed him, so it goes with Truth.

All the pockets are bound together like pages.

The first pocket is just two pieces sewed together, the second are and inch wide, and the third is three inches.

I am especially proud of how I got the strap on, D rings and everything!

All the words were hand embroidered, but the images were done on my machine. It was a pain in the butt to sew all the pages together, there was so much fabric everywhere. The project was due last Tuesday, but it only got handed in yesterday because my sewing machine has completely crapped out on me. The thing that holds the bobbin in keeps trying to fly out, and won't stay put. So I no longer have a working machine. Luckily I could use my mom's when I went home for Easter, so all is well in the end.

Grandparent socks, beers and a sleeve

I finally have FO's to show off! These would have been shown earlier, but my camera has been where the cable is not for the past week, so I was not able to. These are the socks I knit for my grandparents, finally finished. The solid grey are for my grandmother, Hedra from Knitty. I don't think I did too many mods, I think I did 12 repeats on the ankle instead of 14. The yarn was Fortissima Socka I believe, which is so soft and cushy. The stripey socks are just a regular old sock, nothing fancy. The only thing is that they are freaking huge, 76 sts. The wierd thing with the yarn is that it didn't stripe evenly, they ended up more like zebra stripes than anything. The yarn might be Regia, but in reality, I can't remember. I do know it was an extra large skein, and I knit both socks from it.

On Friday night I met up with some old friends, and celebrated a first legal drink in Toronto. Matthias and Olivia are siblings, the two blondies, and Pietro is their friend from Italy who has been staying with them since September. We went to the Tap on Bloor , which was muchly fun. Liv was home for the weekend, and hadn't seen her brother since Christmas, in which time she had celebrated a birthday. Moral of the story, we all got shmammered. My knitting for the past week has still been Thermal, and it is trucking along slowly, but steadily. This is about half of the first sleeve. The body has been separated for the sleeves, and now makes a crap travelling project, so it's all sleeve all the time right now. I really want to wear this sweater! Oh well, it'll get there eventually.

In the mean time, I must finish up a project that needs to be handed in this afternoon. It deserves a post of it's own, so you will hear all about it tomorrow.
